Why We Built Them
SMF and SDF were not designed in a product lab. They emerged from years of working inside live database environments and repeatedly solving the same operational problems by hand. At some point, writing it as reusable software was the obvious answer.
The products are still developed by the same engineers who use them in client environments every week. When a customer asks for a new capability, it often ends up in the product within weeks. There is no gap between the product team and the field.
